Every Friday at Winegard Elementary, a familiar question echoes down the hallway as students gather around school coordinator Valerie Lopez. “Are the snacks here for us?” they ask with hopeful smiles. For many of these children, the answer means more than a simple yes. Nearly 120 students at Winegard lack stable housing, and weekends can be an uncertain time.

Blessings in a Backpack Central Florida is helping change that story. Each week, students receive food they can count on—providing comfort, consistency, and a sense of relief that carries them through Monday morning.

“My students look forward to Friday afternoons,” Lopez said. “They know something good is coming.”

A small bag of weekend nutrition delivers big hope. It lets kids show up to school ready to learn, play, and simply be kids.

Most of all, Blessings in a Backpack reminds children that someone is thinking about them, cheering them on, and making sure they never feel alone.
